Joey stares at a Trophy.

He took us all the way to State back in '85
A shining moment and a dusty reminder
He never felt so scared, he never felt so alive.

Jennifer Nettles knows it all too well!

Viva the experience, my fellow coaches, my friends, and more importantly the players.

Ode to 6630

It is a house, or should I say the remains of a house. But, it is more, much, much, more.

So, we go by it every time we are in New Orleans.

Each time it is in a worsen state of disrepair. Sure the broken levees enveloped it in H2O for weeks and it was someone else's house.

It use to be Red and White at least when they lived there. It holds tons of wonderful memories for them. I walked the inside of 6630 on several occasions before it was sold and felt the love that dwelt within. They could hear it talk and tell stories of family happenings, parties, the pool, and the bar. It even had a TV that would throw beads out to the children as if the parade on the screen was in the living room. There was tons of fun and laughter there.

Their father and husband lived there.....they miss him terribly and they miss 6630. Both are gone and we are all a lot sadder for that.

Someone painted it Green, it looked different, but, to them it wasn't. They can only see it Red and White. Who could blame them, it is not just a house, but, more importantly it was their
HOME, their FAMILY.

She's never told me this.......I just feel it.....every time we go to New Orleans.

That's why we go by it every time we go to New Orleans.

God Bless Louie and 6630.
For My Love
Peace Out

2 Nights of Food (whoring)

Liuzza's "Schooner"....Freaking Awesome
Liuzza's seafood platter

cole slaw

fried green tomatoes w/shrimp remoulade

Mosca's - looks like a church....I'd worship there!

My niece recently commented that she did not know how big a "food whore" I was....now this is from a person with whom I discuss food, cooking, restaurants, chefs, and where are we going to eat....not to mention the fact that her and I were originally called "food whores" by her husband. She has apparently read the depths that I will go to for good food on this here blog.

Two, two, two nights in food heaven.

Friday night.........pick up my WW and head out for an adventure into the By-Water (in NOLA) only to be rebuked (very eclectic, weird place) and therefore go on to Place #2 on the list. Although I wish to say while we did not go there first.....it would for that evening be Place #1.

Place #1 - Liuzza's (Mid-City) for me start with the "COLDEST" beer in town in big "schooners" do I even need to go further? Cin went with White Zin. Appetizer was one of our all time favorites......fried green tomatoes with shrimp remoulade. OK, they didn't invent it (The Upperline did), but, they got a pretty damn good version.

Next up, the entree', A seafood platter, OMG, fried perfection.....ersters, shrimp (remind me of the kind you use to get at Fitzgerald's), catfish, fries (homemade, yum), red beans & rice, and cole slaw (very tasty). Overall Freaking Excellent. We split this and there was no room left for dessert.

We did venture into the bar to watch the Yankees get beat (Thank God), and encounter some of the locals.........which listening intently led me to be able to say correctly the following: "Hey Baby" which could be followed by "Hey My Darling". You have to hear this to truly get the color of the local color.

Saturday night at the .........MOSCA's

OMG, double food heaven. Cin and I ventured across da River to the West Bank (the best Bank) driving out to Avondale to a roadhouse looking restaurant known as MOSCA'S. Mosca's has been repainted and refurbished since K, but still has the look of a 1950's mafia hangout. Oops, I mean that in a very nice way.

We started with the crab salad, a very fresh lettuce, tomatoes, lump crab meat, and green onion in oil and vinegar......light and tasty. Pretty good start......but, we were really not prepared for the double entrees......Oysters Mosca (baked oysters, garlic, olive oil, parmesan cheese, bread crumbs, herbs and spices).....kinda like oyster dressing......OMG, Out "F" standing. Next up Chicken ala Grande......(garlic, garlic, and garlic........I think some olive oil, rosemary, thyme, oregano, etc.) it came out on a platter with an au jus in the pan.....the Italian bread we had not eaten was used to sop up the juice out of that pan. OFS, again.

We will be back, I repeat, we will be back, we will be auditioning people to go with us (sign up in the comment section).....there are another two or three entrees to get and since this was all served up "family style" it would be great to try the filet, broiled potatoes, Italian shrimp, and pasta bordelaise. Gotta go, I am hungry.

These two meals were soooooooo New Orleans. OMG.

Peace Out and Bon Appetite!
