Homecoming 2007

Back on campus at Southeatern 2007. A chance to reconnect to people I have not seen in years. The thing about Homecoming is that you just don't know who is going to show up?

It was a beautiful day and unfortunately, unlike some guys in Texas I know, we did not have a big touch football game. There was some visiting with Frat brothers, new and old. Also, visiting with people I knew from back in the day.

What I noticed when visiting with people is that their core memories of you/events of the past are often conversely or inversely different that you core memories of those events. In fact, they may remember something that you do not. It often makes for interesting discussion. Sometimes I find myself saying "oh yeah, that's right" even though I have no idea what happened. I just don't want to spoil their memory of it.

But, for everyone it is just about the reconnection. Being with someone who has experienced similar things (college life) at similar times. How they have spent their lives since then. It is just in knowing that someone familiar is there. It kinda says to them "everything is right in the world at least at this moment." Reassurance is something we all need in our life. The more the better. Old friends can provide that.

Cafe Lynn - Mandeville

This report is from three different meals:

-4 cheese ravioli appetizer with cream sauce - rich, excellent
-Onion soup gratin - good, expected better
-Friend eggplant with tomato fondue, fried in panko bread crumbs - light, crispy, tasty, tomato fondue just OK.
-Side salad - cool, crisp, nice vinaigrette

-Osso Bucco - melt in your mouth.

This former Burger King has been dressed up nicely inside. Has a limited menu. First Overall Rating: Pretty Darn Good. Will definitely give them more chances to impress.

Service excellent.

Are You "IN IT"?

So, the ole lady is away Cruising......idle time.......I'll watch that movie "Garden State"? Heck, I had seen bits and pieces of it over a long period of time.

OK, so this cute, age of discovery, first love of your life movie rolls.............it has got just enough to keep me interested until a scene pulled me straight up in bed.

Cut to scene: Andrew Largeman (Zach Braff) is revealing his inner feelings (because he accidentally caused his mother to become wheelchair bound and has been dealing with the emotions surrounding this incident for years) to his female companion Sam (Natalie Portman). He is deep in the moment (immersed) when Sam says "You're IN IT"......he looks at her quizzically???? Sam then says that her mom says that when you are like that (deep in thought about an experience and you are somehow experiencing it) that you're "IN IT".

BINGO.........IN IT.........I find myself that way when I am writing this blog, listening to music, or replaying a restaurant report. So deep into it sometimes you can almost smell, hear, see, feel, touch everything about the moment. Lately, there are more and more times that I feel myself "IN IT". I find that fascinating. Gotta think that this is something that comes with age?

BTW, Garden State, worth the rental fee, nominated for 25 awards, winner of 10.
Viva Zach Braff and Natalie Portman
Sorry Randall, no sex scenes!

Memories of the WH

Not the White House, fool. Waffle House.

Trouble is many of us have no distinctive memory of WH. Most of us have attended to the place during the early morning hours. Usually after some event that involved............alcohol.

Things are often blurred..................................................................during those times.

Tonight, while Cindy was away, I ventured out to the WH for some dinner (make that breakfast for dinner). Things I noticed (since I wasn't drinking) are that not all the waitress (at least tonight) are toothless and weigh 200plus pounds. The short order cook is still as surly at 5pm as he is at 2am. It also appears to be a dirtier place at this time (if you can believe that). Maybe the senses are just sharper without alcohol. DUH! One other thing, apparently people actually frequent the place for food (like for dinner) like I did. Except, it is their "big" night out place.

Yikes!
Please don't ask me what the food tasted like or why I went there.
Right now I am feeling fine......hopefully proper digestion will take place.
Chalk this one up to "What the HELL were you thinking? That's right, you weren't".

Peace Out.
