Musical Enlightenment

Let’s see a show of hands out there on this question: How many of you Boomers thought (like I) that there is no good music being made, because everything is RAP? I thought so. Even the Rappers are remixing and remaking old tunes.
I had fallen into the musically world of my iPod to get my music the last couple of years. Sure I heard some Alternative music that I liked, but, I never really delved into exploring music (shutting myself out hoping the RAP would go away).

But, a nudge in the right direction, wham, and a metamorphosis has taken place! I am back! Listening, searching, and finding some pretty good music out there. There is “more than RAP”! How did this come about you might ask? Some prodding, poking, and downright luck is the answer to that question.

The prodding and poking came from two sources: A Pop Culture Punk whose blog entitled moljunior had some interesting things to say about today’s (Gen X & Y and Boomers, too) music makers from time to time (oft times he just talks about his mundane and cheap lifestyle). While my musical taste is obviously not as sophisticated (he would think), he did prompt me to check out some artists that I might not have necessarily. My second source was “The Professor” or R. S. who to almost divert his attention from his complicated life would email me tunes (from some secret source, ;) ) at all hours of the night. By some miracle of the digital gods I am been able to upload these tunes into my iPod. That was, of course, before some slack ass Gen X geek @ Apple found a way to kick them out.

Now, under the “downright good luck” section, I have, with the expansion of the High Definition Tier of my local Cable contractor found a couple of stations MHD (Music: High Definition) channel and TMCHD The Music Channel High Definition. Voila! Both these channels show music videos, music festivals, and concerts. Some “big” name acts, some “obscure” acts, and some middle of the road. Check your local listings for these channels. I highly recommend them.

Bottom line on all this has been the fact that I have discovered “new” (to me) groups and tunes to add to my iPOD for the enjoyment of myself and the Mrs.

Over the past year my musically revitalization has introduced me to (and I would recommend for your listening):
Collective Soul - Album: Home done with the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra
Rilo Kiley (Jennifer Lewis) - Silver Lining & Portions for Foxes
The Feeling - Never Be Lonely & Love When You Call
Wilco - Hate it Here & The Thanks I Get
Sugarland
Pat Green
Gnarls Barkley - Crazy
My Chemical Romance
Donovan Frankenreiter - It Don't Matter
The Killers
John Mayer
The Fray
Lifehouse
Gin Blossoms
Train
Maroon 5
Creed
Counting Crows
Big & Rich
Rascal Flatts

Disclaimer: My choice of these artists may have only led me to purchase one, two, or more of their tunes. This blog is not a full out endorsement of all these artists tunes.

Pine Needle Patrol

Ah yes, time to clean up from Christmas just past, time to put the tree out to the road so that it can be used in some coastal eroision project meant to save our wetlands or basically our ass from future K-type Storms.

It is that time of year so aptly described by Miss Cindy as "I love Christmas, but, I love it when it's over."

So pack up the ornaments and accoutrements; pack them away in the attic and await the New Year. What better way to do that than rolling out the Rigid 5.0 hp Wet/Dry Vacuum pictured above. Next to it is the fairly useless Hoover Fusion. The Fusion can't handle sucking up pine needles, it basically clogs. Now on the other hand the Rigid sucks up everything in sight. The Rigid is the Sheriff of the Pine Needle Patrol!

As Cindy maneuvered the Rigid for the first time I believe I heard an almost inaudible "oh". She likes the Rigid. In fact, the Fusion pretty much shut down and possible repairs are in that wuss's future. Proving once again that short and stubby beats long and thin.

Happiest of New Year to all
Viva Rigid.
Peace upon You.

Deck the Halls, Broussard!!

So, our local "Mr. Perfect Lawn Man" previously chronicled on this blog, has taken on a seasonal personna to match his normal everyday OCD personna. Combined together what do you get? None other than Mike Broussard trying to do his best Matthew Broderick imitation from the film "Deck the Halls". He decked his Villere Street home in lights and decorations. Why? Because around here "Mr. Broussard is the Christmas Guy"

My shoddy cameramanship does not do this man's house lights and decorations justice.
However, Mr. Broussard chided me for being Grinchlike and I have risen to the challenge and have fought back. Granted, that my "fighting back" lacks the fervor, money, engineering, and talent of Danny DeVito like in the movie. But, as always one to assess the situation (ad nauseum, shut up Rick) and often procrastinate......actually I was going to procrastinate but I never got around to it. I finally made a step in the right direction and here are my decorations:

Hey, Broussard, you want lights, I'll give you lights.........eh.......Santa.
As that great American Neil Armstrong said "one small decoration for Charlie, one giant leap for Charlie". Just want to keep this all in perspective. Maybe next year I will double or triple my decorations, stay tuned.

Viva the Reason for the Season!
Peace Upon You.
